“The unfolding of your words gives light; it gives understanding to the simple.” Psalm 119:130
The girl in the attached photo has her finger to her lips, and if you could hear her, she is singing ‘Ti limyè Levanjil mwen an.’ which translated is ‘This little Gospel light of mine’; she is going to let it shine. Everyone needs light. You need physical light to make sure you can see the world around you, to avoid running into obstacles. Through his Word, God wants to provide light for your mind too. His Word is a light unto our path.
Our Heavenly Father wants to give us His light; to every single person in this fallen world. He wants to light up your mind with the truth of who He is and reveal His next step for your life. Being in His Word daily is often the key to turning on that light. You have to soak your mind in the light. Biblical meditation isn’t losing your mind to the timely relevance of this flawed world; it’s focusing it on His Word. When you do that, you bring light to your life; His Gospel light. His Word gives you direction in life. It shows you the path God wants you to take.
When Psalm 119 was written, the “lamp” referred to a candle in a lamp that people carried with them as they walked in the darkness. This Haitian girl’s finger represents the flame of a candle; her Gospel light. The ancient candle was similar to how we might use a flashlight today. If you hold a flashlight and you want the light to shine further down your path, you have to take the next step. Have you ever been outside on a dark night and trying to find your way? God gives us just enough light for the next step. You shine His light and then take that next step, and God gives you light for the next step after that. If you want to see wonderful things from God’s Word, then ask Him to open your eyes to what He wants to do through your life. He’s ready to turn on the light.
Dear Heavenly Father, you have called your servants to ventures of which we cannot see the ending, by paths as yet untrodden, through perils unknown. Give us faith to go out with good courage, not knowing where we go but only that your hand is leading us and your love supporting us through Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. Amen.
May God be with you,
Jay
