“When the chief priests had met with the elders and devised a plan, they gave the soldiers a large sum of money, telling them, “You are to say, ‘His disciples came during the night and stole him away while we were asleep.’ If this report gets to the governor, we will satisfy him and keep you out of trouble.” So the soldiers took the money and did as they were instructed. And this story has been widely circulated among the Jews to this very day. Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted.” Matthew 28:12-17
Last week, our guest Pastor was Tom Wirsing and those last three words from his message really hit me between the eyes. “But some doubted.” His message was over the above Gospel reading from Matthew. Following the service, as he shook my hand and I had complimented him I repeated those three words and told him that on any given day, I could be found with that group of doubters simply by the way others saw me. That is why I go to church often. I need to repent for falling in with the doubters.
What helps to keep me out of the House of Doubters? Being in the Bible every day…often. God gave us the Bible for good reason. The Bible points us to Jesus and He forgives our sins of doubting and everything else that this sin filled world teaches us. Only God could have put the Bible together.
The fact that the Bible has only one theme is nothing short of a miracle. The Bible was written by 40 different people; of different ages and stages of life, on three continents. And each of them wrote the same story; Jesus’ story. Prophets and poets, fishermen and kings, shepherds and scribes all had the same story. Some wrote in homes, others in prisons, and others on ships. You couldn’t have put together a more diverse group of authors and have the same story that points us to Christ.
The Bible’s pictures, metaphors, analogies, and prophecies from the very beginning to end; are about God’s plan to redeem people and build a family for eternity. It all began with Jesus. You, like this child from Chincheron can see the coming of Jesus in every book. Don’t be a doubter. Be in His Word daily. Follow Jesus.
Dear Heavenly Father, you have called your servants to ventures of which we cannot see the ending, by paths as yet untrodden, through perils unknown. Give us faith to go out with good courage, not knowing where we go but only that your hand is leading us and your love supporting us through Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. Amen.
May God be with you,
Jay
