Be prepared.

“To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples.” John 8:31

Last week, I was blessed to spend nearly nine hours with my four-year old granddaughter Audrey.  We read about Coco the Croc, Pete the Cat and Through your child’s Eyes and did some tedious coloring; staying within the lines and quite possibly the hardest part of our time together was watching Sponge Bob, Veggie Tales and oh, those two Barbie movies.

The book “Through your child’s eyes” was the highlight of the day as I could share my memories of times spent with her mom when she was four listening to me read to her and also the importance that God has in my life as we talked about His creation.  It’s these important lessons in our lives that may seem really small and insignificant at times but quite often are used in His plan to bring others closer to Him and His Word.

Whenever you have an opportunity to share a moment that He has given you to be there with a 4-year old, feed a child in Haiti or reach out to a loved one or a stranger with a small message of Hope; grab that moment as if your life depended on it.  That is why He created you, for moments like these.  Stay in His Word daily and keep watchful for that opportunity.  I am closing with the words from the hymn ‘Lord, Keep Us Steadfast in Thy Word’ that were written by Martin Luther in 1541.

“Lord, keep us steadfast in Thy Word; curb those who fain by craft and sword would wrest the Kingdom from Thy Son and set at naught all He hath done.  Lord Jesus Christ, Thy power make known, for Thou art Lord of lords alone; defend Thy Christendom that we may evermore sing praise to Thee.   O Comforter of priceless worth. send peace and unity on earth.  Support us in our final strife and lead us out of death to life.”

Dear Heavenly Father, you have called your servants to ventures of which we cannot see the ending, by paths as yet untrodden, through perils unknown.  Give us faith to go out with good courage, not knowing where we go but only that your hand is leading us and your love supporting us through Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.  Amen.

May God be with you…Jay
