“Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever.” Psalm 118:1
Yesterday was a day of giving thanks for safe travel from Bloomington, IL to my home in Normal, IL; about 15 minutes. Giving thanks; we have so much to be thankful for because all that we have comes from our Triune God; everything we have, the daily protection and guidance and most of all the forgiveness of our daily sins. The small boy in the attached photo has much to be thankful for, shoeless, hungry, tired but he like us has much to be thankful for and too often we take all that He has done for us; for granted.
Without our Savior we are doomed to hell; that is our destination without His gift. We may overlook the meals, the clothes, the weather, our families, our shelter and our short road trips but we must never cease giving thanks for gift of Salvation. We also give thanks for our Father giving us the privilege to share our blessings with children in Haiti. There was a song on the radio today, and I was just able to jot down the title ‘I just want to thank you Lord’ and it was by Judy Marshall. I pulled over and scribbled down some of lyrics; it went well with the Bible verse from Psalm 118.
“I just want to thank you Lord, for every time you heard me pray; just want to thank you for always being there. When I was so down and out you came along and made me want to shout; I just want to thank you Lord…thank you Lord. If I had a thousand lives to live, I’d give them all to my Lord. He’s been so good to me, He’s made the good times outnumber the bad. He’s been the best friend that I ever had; I just want to thank you Lord…thank you Lord.”
Dear Heavenly Father, you have called your servants to ventures of which we cannot see the ending, by paths as yet untrodden, through perils unknown. Give us faith to go out with good courage, not knowing where we go but only that your hand is leading us and your love supporting us through Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. Amen.
May God be with you…Jay
