“He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.” Mark 16:15
Have you been watching? If yes, watching for what? Are there people in your corner of the woods who have never heard the Holy Gospel or who have but just let it go in one ear and out the other? The eyes in the photo belong to a 16 year old kid who wasn’t that attentive to the souls in his corner of the world who were needing help or places where God had prepared for him to go. Fifty years later and now retired for six years the frequent nudges from the Holy Spirit are more recognizable and the desire to go in that direction is almost a no brainer; my, how the time has changed. I read a quote from John Ortberg recently that said; “The rewards of a career may be quite visible but they are temporary. The significance of a calling lasts for an eternity.” There are a few plaques on my bedroom wall from my career that hold memories but the most meaningful thing on my wall are the photos of the Haitian kids that my retirement funds are helping to provide a meal for every day they are in school; learning about Jesus. Those eyes hoped for a good job and now they delight in using savings from my career to help some Haitian kids bring Hope to other lost souls in Haiti. If you want to do something significant and walk on the water me and some other Trinity/HOPE donors…you have to get out of the boat.
“Like shepherds watching for the light, aware of dangers in the night we hear the angel “Do not fear, the Savior of the world is near.” We run, we see, we touch, we laugh; You came to earth on our behalf. I AM forever WHO I AM. Above you, beneath you, around you and within you; be still and know that I am God.”
Dear Heavenly Father, you have called your servants to ventures of which we cannot see the ending, by paths as yet untrodden, through perils unknown. Give us faith to go out with good courage, not knowing where we go but only that your hand is leading us and your love supporting us through Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. Amen.
May God be with you…Jay
